Transit On-Time Performance
Near Target
Why is this measure important?
The City is committed to providing reliable, efficient and safe transit services that connect people, contributing to a high quality of life. On-time performance (OTP) is an indicator that provides insight into the reliability of our public transit system. The measure is used to inform scheduling and resource requirements to keep transit riders moving.
What progress are we making?
On Time Performance (OTP) can be affected by weather, traffic, construction, passenger volume, and city growth. A good level of service target for OTP (based on industry best practice) is around 90%. Over the past few years, the City has generally seen an OTP in the low 80% range, largely due to the pressures associated with recovery from the pandemic and ridership growth. Brampton Transit continues to strive toward achieving our OTP target through scheduling, vehicle reliability, data analytics, and investments in added resources to improve responsiveness and overall performance.
How is this measured?
On-time performance data is collected by Transit's Smart Bus system and is calculated based on the percentage of early and late trips three minutes early and five minutes late from the scheduled time.
